Hector Pietreson Museum & Memorial

Situated in Orlando West, Soweto, the Hector Pieterson Memorial and Museum stands as a powerful tribute to the brave students who took part in the 1976 Soweto Uprising. Located just two blocks from the site where 12-year-old Hector Pieterson was tragically shot and killed on 16 June 1976, the museum honours his legacy and that of countless others who fought against apartheid. Through compelling exhibits, photographs and personal accounts, it provides visitors with a moving insight into South Africa’s struggle for freedom and the resilience of its youth.
