Africa Bird Tours highlights Soweto’s thriving birding scene, thanks to the dedication of a pioneering local birder. The area has gained recognition as a fascinating place for birdwatching, with key spots surrounding the iconic painted towers of Orlando Power Station and offering access to wetland and Highveld koppie habitats. The wetland at Orlando Dam is home to an impressive array of bird species, including Little Grebe, Grey-headed Gull, Levaillant’s Cisticola, Blacksmith Lapwing, Little Rush Warbler and Lesser Swamp-Warbler, among others. Swallows and swifts abound – keep an eye out for Rock Martin and White-throated Swallow as they soar through the skies.
