Soweto is home to numerous political tributes and memorials honouring the heroes of South Africa’s freedom struggle. Among them is Regina Mundi Church, the largest Roman Catholic Church in the country. A landmark in South Africa’s history, the church played a pivotal role during apartheid, offering refuge to anti-apartheid groups and activists. Though unassuming at first glance, its vintage interior – capable of seating 2,000 to 5,000 people – reveals its historical significance upon closer inspection.
