Soweto Theatre stands as one of South Africa’s key legacy projects from the 2010 FIFA World Cup, marking the development of the first fully equipped, professional theatre facility in Soweto. Prior to its construction, live drama and musical performances in South Africa’s largest and most historic township were staged in schools, churches and community halls – none of which offered the technical infrastructure required for professional theatre productions.
